Easy Freeform Crochet
with Lisa and Lorraine Wiseman
Saturday 19th October 2024, 10am-2pm
This is the easy way to begin crocheting, and can easily lead to a lifetime dedication! Always wanted to learn to crochet without having to read patterns, use or even count traditional stitches? In this workshop, participants will learn how to make their own Freeform crochet garments, accessories, homewares and sculptures, using an original and unique method devised by the tutors.
This class will cover:
- Yarns and hooks- types, sizes, fibres/materials and uses
- How to crochet- Easy Freeform techniques
- Holding yarn and hook- tension and grip
- Planning a project- how to make a garment fit
- Useful Stuff- padding, lining, boning and wiring or how to make 3D crochet stand up, bend or fold
- Joining and adding to crochet pieces
- Assembling and finishing a garment- how to avoid sewing, and ‘to block or not to block?’
- Care of different fibre types- washing instructions
Class size: up to 15 persons, junior artists from ten years of age upwards are welcome

Members- $45 per person
Non members- $60 per person

Materials;
Yarns and hooks will be supplied, but if you prefer ergonomic hooks or a particular fibre, please BYO.
Teacher Bio’s;
Lisa and Lorraine Wiseman are both known for their textile artworks, and most particularly for their crochet. They occasionally collaborate on artworks and presenting workshops.
Lisa makes wild, whimsical, fun and functional, colourful crochet Art garments, accessories and sculptures. Her Freeform crochet works have been shown internationally, including on the runway of the Crocheters’ Guild of America, and have won many awards at exhibitions and shows, including Sydney Royal Easter Show. During 2023-24 she was one of the Liddell WORKS Project artists in residence, and produced 14 crochet hats for the Project exhibitions. Lisa has a current Working With Children Check, junior artists are welcome at this workshop.
Lorraine has extensive experience presenting textile-related topics, including teaching crochet to complete beginner crocheters. She has an encyclopedic knowledge of crochet stitches, garment construction, fibre types etc. Her crochet is finely detailed, beautifully made and often features complex high-relief stitches and multicolour work.
Venue:
The Uniting Church Hall behind the Uniting Church at 246 Dowling Street, Dungog.
You will be able to download a .pdf file with all the above details after payment. This will be updated as needed, and any updates will be listed here and in our News and Events page, so you can download them too if you wish. The download file will be available until just after the workshop. That means you can keep an electronic or paper copy (if you want to print it out) with all the relevant info at hand.

Cancellations by Students:
- Cancellations made 2 or more weeks prior to a booked workshop date will receive a full refund.
- Cancellations made within 7-13 days prior to a booked workshop date will be refunded 50% of the workshop cost.
- Cancellations made within 6 days of a booked workshop date will not receive a refund.
Cancellation by Dungog Art Society:
- A workshop may be cancelled by DAS due to insufficient student numbers or unforeseen circumstances. In this event, you will be offered a full refund.
